A bold woman sets out to reclaim the laird she loves in this novel of fifteenth-century Scotland from a New YorkTimes–bestselling author.

Sir Diarmot MacEnroy, deciding his illegitimate children need a mother and his keep needs a proper lady, now stands before the altar with a gentle bride he hopes is too shy to disrupt his life or break his heart. The nuptials, however, are interrupted by the appearance of a flame‑haired beauty carrying two babies, boldly claiming that she is his wife and mother of his twin infant sons. Armed with her seven large brothers, she has come to demand her dues. Having waited one year for the return of the handsome laird who wed her, bedded her, then disappeared, Ilsa Campbell MacEnroy takes matters into her own hands and sets out to reclaim the man she briefly and passionately loved. Stunned by his denial, her heart softens when she learns of the injury that has ravaged his memory. Now she faces the nearly impossible task of conquering his past—and his fierce reluctance to share his heart. Though desire flares hot and wild between them, it will take more to win his trust. It will take the magic touch of a woman in love.

This story was sweet in a PG-13 kind'a way. I don't know what it was about this story that made me feel so good but I gravitated to all the characters -- secondary (especially Sigimor)..as well as the main characters, both. I loved the camaraderie between siblings and closeness of family and clan. The children were all so adorable. Ilsa Cameron is sweet and kind...but she's also feisty, intelligent, smart and determined. Being the only girl among fourteen brothers made her tougher than most girls. She's well loved, protected and cared about by her brothers and 21 male cousins. This author conveyed the emotion of Ilsa's feelings perfectly. Her sense of betrayal and injury upon seeing her hand fasted husband, who deserted her and their twin babies, in the middle of being married to another. But because of a head injury, Diarmot MacEnroy doesn't remember Ilsa or anything about her

Sir Diarmot MacEnroy is angry and frustrated...wanting to marry a "manageable", mild mannered and quiet bride....only to be told that not only is he already married, but his wife (whom he cannot remember) is a strong willed woman. I didn't like Diarmot a whole lot. His injury makes him kind of a jerk. Even though I knew while I was reading, that he'd suffered a beating almost unto death...one that had taken his memory, I still didn't like how ugly and unnecessarily rude he treated Ilsa. He thinks she's a lying, deceiving woman.

This story opens with interest that roped me in from the beginning. Here we have a woman being forced by her huge, testosterone menacing, Scottish brothers to hunt for her husband who'd been missing for a year, only to find out he's at an altar with another woman on the crux of saying his marriage vows. This story held a lot of suspenseful intrigue, murder and mystery all-the-while Ilsa tries patiently to wend her way back into her husbands untrusting, suspicious heart. Her perseverance and patience deserved gold medals. No adult language...intimate scenes tastefully conveyed and do not overpower the plot. I loved the Scottish wordage sprinkled throughout the plot lending a nice authentic flavor to the landscape. It would've been nice to know how old Ilsa and Diarmot were. But all in all, nicely done.

Highland Groom The MacEnroys Series Book 1 edition by Hannah Howell Romance eBooks Reviews

I have most of H.H.'s books in paperback and have read them more than once, now it's time to get them on my kindle. When I don't know what to read, I always go back to what's familiar and what I know is a good book that will keep me laughing and crying, this author's books does all that and more. Can't get enough of this series.
Other than the excessive stubbornness of the "Laird" to see what was in front of him, which went on a little too long for my tastes, the story was wonderful, inventive and beautifully told. This author is brilliant. She really knows how to make a story flow so that you just never want to put it down. Thank you for the late nights when I had to keep reading to find out what happened next!
After reading Sigimore's story, I was anxious to see what kind of trouble the rest of his clan could get into. Hannah Howell's romances are clever, full of twists and turns, and lots of steamy sex scenes. There is nothing run of the mill about them. From page one they grab your attention with an unusual premise, and when a normal book ends with a happily ever after, Howell gives you another three chapters of challenges the hero must overcome to secure his love story. With dashes of humor thrown in, our cast of characters see their foibles through their families'eyes. On to book three for me.
Frequent humor, good characterization, and a mysterious villain make this a pretty good story set in Middle Ages Scotland. The author writes Scottish dialect well and keeps a good pace throughout.
My only criticism is the last 20%. At this point the mystery is solved and the H/h can get down to the business of strengthening and enjoy their marriage that had been put through so much. It is at this point that the heroine, Ilsa, decides that she needs to get away “to think.” While the author does try to explain it, it most felt like unnecessary filler.
I am currently in the process of reading the whole series. I thought I would just read the first one but it is really hard not to continue on. The books have a humor to them that keep you engaged & the stories are well told & thought out. Hard not to get involved in the characters & the story so I would say if you like this type of genre you will highly enjoy these books & the series. I am on book 7 & will be sad when there are no more. LOL
This was one of the first romance novels I ever read and still, after all these years, is one of my favorites. The Murray family is loud, boisterous, caring and fiercely loyal. The story is continuous, which is something I love. And one of my favorite elements of this family is that you go back and check on the "original couple, i.e. the parents" from years earlier in the novels.
I owned this in paperback years ago and it got lost when I moved. I just read it again and loved it as much as the first time. Ilsa has waited almost a year for her hand-fasted bridegroom to reappear. Her brothers decide it is time for her to take her three month old twins and confront him at his home. At their arrival, she finds her husband saying his vows in church to another woman. Diarmot was seriously beaten and left for dead shortly after leaving her and now has no memory of her. He refuses to believe that she is his wife, even though she has written proof with her. The eight brothers that she has brought with her (she has 14) and her many cousins object and they are left to try to restart their marriage. As difficult as that may be, there is the added problem of who is trying to kill them and why. This is a fast-paced, well-written book with unforgettable characters. Amid the danger that the main characters find themselves in, there are also plenty of humorous moments to keep the reader racing through to the end.

Sexual situations may offend some readers
